Hi guys, I'm very new to Civil 3D and need to be able to produce some example drawings for my employer to show what I've learned so far in my Civil 3D tutorials. Pokemon Master Quest Game there. He (my employer) suggested asking if one of you kind folks on the forums might be able to provide me with some sample drawings/files that I can open in civil 3d, ideally with the following things included:existing ground/finished ground surfaces and a volume surface (to calculate cut and fill), something displaying stormwater drainage (he wasn't specific, but I imagine he meant a graded surface with arrows to show direction of flow), subdivisions (I'm assuming he means parcel data), and road pavement. I think he just wants examples of all the typical things you see on civil subdivision drawings.
If anyone would be able to help me out and send me some files I would be VERY grateful. Tuto Tomtom One Cracker more. Regards, Lachlan. Regards, Lachlan If you use files that others post, how does that show what you've learned? As far as I can tell, that only shows what someone else learned. So he just wants to see 'what's possible'? IMHO that would not be a very good way to go about something like that. There are so many varied ways to go about accomplishing just about anything you could ever need to do.
And of course there are always going to be somethings that just can't be done. Then there are things that most people think can't be done and someone figures out a way to do it using some tool that was never meant to do that. You'd be better off working with your tutorials and asking questions here as they come up.
You'll find that most people here will freely answer your questions best they can. If you don't understand how to do something, ask. If you think you understand something but wonder if there's a better way, ask. Very rarely have I ever gone even a full work day without getting a question resolved.
If the boss doesn't want to pay to send you to a C3D class, make sure he understands that it's in his best interests to allow you to spend as much time here as possible. Even when you don't have any questions, just reading the questions OTHER PEOPLE ASK and the responses they recieve can prove very educational. Prior to my current job, I knew AutoCAD very well but I had never worked with C3D (in fact, I didn't even know anyone who had).
My boss sent me for a C3D class but the first one he was able to get me into was more than 7 months after I started working with the program. For those 7 months, I read every blog/tutorial on C3D that I could find. And I'd spend the first hour or so of every work day browsing the C3D forum just reading other people's problems and the answers they received.
By the time my class rolled around, I had a decent understanding of the program and the instructor just needed to 'tweak a few things'. Hi civilman, Thanks for the reply. We're a small civil/structural firm. My boss knows exactly what he wants the drawings to look like on paper, but he wants me to show him some examples of what others have done-for my benefit- so I can have something to look at and say 'this is what I want it to look like, how do I acheive the end result?' I realise that there are many ways to achieve an end result in this program, and I already have a good idea about how to go about drafting what he wants, and am well aware of the usefullness of reading solutions to problems on forums - thats still an excellent point and I shall continue to do so - but what I need right now is some example files to show him. Thanks again all for your replies.
